Drone Services

Albion Marine’s R&D team has come up with a unique way to carry out certain survey and/or inspection requirements using a purpose-built drone base. This drone utilization is a highly sophisticated, safe, efficient and cost-effective approach.

The many advantages of using a drone include:

• Safety: Inspectors remain a safe distance while getting a close-up camera view.

• Prevention: The relative low cost of drone inspections is prompting many companies to use them to do inspections more often to detect potential issues earlier and avoid expensive repairs.

•  Data: The archivable data obtained by a drone provides a meticulous record of a major asset’s condition over time.

• Recompense: Using a drone to assess the condition of a damaged or dysfunctional asset can speed up the payment of a liability insurance claim and reduce any related costly downtime.

Condition Assessment Survey

Exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS), also known as scrubbers, are used to stop particulate matter and harmful air emissions, such as sulphur oxides (SOx) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), from being released from a marine engine’s combustion exhaust gases. EGCS provide a reliable, efficient, economical alternative to using distillate or low sulphur content fuels.

Albion Marine Solutions offers the expert services of its professional team to plan, execute and support vessel retrofits for the installation of scrubbers, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems, and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems. Our team does so with a parallel management of the operational and technological risks by sourcing the most cost-effective, reliable solutions from both a capital expenditure (CAPEX) and future operating expenditure (OPEX) perspective.

Albion Marine Solutions has designed and developed a number of EGCS conversions for domestic and international trade vessels.

With the support of the Government of Canada, Albion Marine Solutions has developed its own proprietary design of the Advanced Air Emission Abatement Technology Floating Unit. The unit is designed to capture SOx, NOx, carbon, greenhouse gases and particulate matter released from the exhaust flue of oceangoing vessels calling at Canada’s major ports.

3D Scan

We specialize in 3D laser scanning for the maritime and industrial engineering and design applications. Every scan measure millions of discrete points and each point allocated its precise position in space. 

Our scans capture quality accurate measurements on board. Our specialized engineers capture all the areas of the Engine Room of the vessel. While not disrupting normal vessel operations, we scan every possible area where the Scrubber System may be installed.

We then deliver accurate as built 3D models. Our Naval Architectures will conduct a feasibility study for the new installation with a detailed model avoiding conflicts with existing piping or other equipment.

Riding Squads

Albion Marine Solutions Ltd. provides trained and certified electricians, mechanics, pipe fitters and technicians to ensure safe and efficient repairs and retrofits on board of the ships at sea or in ports. The voyage repairs are carried out onboard the vessels without hampering the routine operation of the vessels and thus no commercial loss for the clients.  Riding Squads are composed based on the nature of the job scope.  Albion can take up voyage repairs or work in the shipyard for new build and during routine dry-dock repairs with the Riding Squads.  Riding Squad can perform:

• repairs and/or renewal of steel and/or GRE pipes, 

• fabrication jobs involving installation of ladder, stairs, access platforms, installation of lifting I-beam,

• retrofitting of any equipment/s on deck, engine room and accommodation

 • major overhaul of main engine and auxiliary engines

• repairs of auxiliary machinery – viz. winches, windlass, deck cranes, various types of pumps, air compressors etc. 

Albion also has a dedicated and trained team to carry out routine health checks and repairs of Scrubbers and BWTS (Ballast water Treatment System).

Training

Albion Marine Solutions provides training in scrubber maintenance and chemical handling. Our training covers system design and function, governing documents, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Training can take place at customer sites. Well-trained crew who understand the system and regulatory issues will increase the lifetime of the machinery, reduce opex, and, crucially, lower the risk of non-compliance. Training can also prevent scrubber downtime should the crew misread or misunderstand the regulations.

Albion Marine Solutions offers a full range of class, certification and verification services to support the proper installation and commissioning of a scrubber. Our team of experts can help you at any stage of scrubber installation and operation. After Sales Services 

Complete Health Check (Semi-annual) 

• Detailed Checklist- based inspection by maker trained personnel. 

• No infringement with any maker. Does not involve proprietary software checks. 

• Covers structural, mechanical and electrical maintenance scope 

• IAS and system integration checks, including electrical cabling issues. 

• Comprehensive health check report provided at the end with issues, recommendations and photos. 

Sensor Exchange Calibration Program 

• Calibration of all sensors as per maker’s manual. 

• Maker- certified calibrated sensor is installed while old sensor is sent to the sensor maker’s calibration facility and stored with AMS 

• Involves all commonly used sensors such as pH sensor, pAH probe and turbidimeter. 

• Sensor exchange/ replacement/ calibration – completely managed by a dedicated Albion Marine Project Manager

Regulatory & Technical Compliance

Albion’s UTM surveys are performed in alignment with, but not limited to, the following standards and regulations:

• IACS Unified Requirements (UR Z, UR S, UR W, as applicable)
• Classification Society Rules, including DNV, ABS, LR, BV, RINA, NK, IRS, and CCS
• IMO Instruments, including the Enhanced Survey Programme (ESP) Code, Condition Assessment Scheme (CAS), and relevant IMO Resolutions
• Flag State and Port State Control (PSC) requirements, where applicable

All measurements are obtained using Class‑approved and calibrated ultrasonic thickness measurement equipment, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and full acceptance by attending Class Surveyors.

Scope of UTM Services

Albion undertakes UTM surveys for both as‑built thickness verification and in‑service residual thickness assessment, including the following:

Structural Components

• Hull shell plating (side shell, bottom shell, bilge areas, and keel)
• Main deck, weather deck, and internal decks
• Longitudinals, transverse frames, girders, web frames, and stiffeners
• Bulkheads (watertight, oil‑tight, and non‑watertight)
• Hatch coamings, tank tops, stools, foundations, and structural insert plates

Tanks & Enclosed Spaces

• Ballast water tanks
• Cargo tanks (crude oil, product, chemical, and LNG/LPG containment structures, where applicable)
• Fuel oil, diesel oil, lubricating oil, and freshwater tanks

The main aim of any maintenance plan on a ship is to get the maintenance and repair work done in the least possible time at minimum costs. Our team prepares a maintenance plan to ensure that the machinery aboard a vessel maintains required standards of operation and safety.

A maintenance plan constitutes an imperative element of a ship’s routine operations and is an integral component of the vessel’s maintenance mechanisms. In establishing a maintenance plan, several aspects should be taken into consideration, starting with the International Safety Management (ISM) code to the specifications and guidelines issued by the manufacturers of the machinery.

In developing each vessel’s maintenance plan, Albion Marine Solutions takes into consideration:

• International Safety Management (ISM) code requirements

• Manufacturer-issued specifications and guidelines

• Equipment history (including previous defects, failures, damage, and remedial actions)

• A vessel’s age

• Critical equipment and systems

• Maintenance intervals

• Possible consequences of failed or failing equipment on the vessel’s safe operation

A systematic procedure is established that forms an integral part of a ship’s planned maintenance system. For inspection purpose, checklists are often used to ensure that the inspection, test, and maintenance are each performed according to the ISM code requirements, manufacturer guidelines and the client’s specifications.
