The SRKW is a vital component of the local marine ecosystem and has cultural significance for Indigenous peoples and coastal communities in British Columbia. The Government of Canada recognizes that SRKW faces imminent threats to their survival and recovery and that immediate action is required. Albion Marine Solutions Team Update June 2019

Albion Marine Solutions team conducted a survey and 3D scanning of a 10K container in the US for a scrubber retrofit project. Due to the complex of the vessel schedule, the team had to finish the work during two short port stays. Albion Marine is currently working on scrubber retrofit projects for the container vessel fleet and has successfully carried out survey and scanning for four vessels during the last month in the US and Asia

ICS Issues Annual Review 2019

ICS has launched its Annual Review 2019, in which it provides an in-depth insight into the most pressing issues that shipping is facing nowadays. As the review says, shipowners are mostly concerned regarding the implementation of the 2020 global sulphur cap. The report analyzes other pressing issues as well, such as keeping an updated STCW training regime, the UN Law of the Sea Implementing Agreement, piracy and economic risk. Read the review

“Sustainable and balanced” – IMO Secretary-General Outlines Blueprint

IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim delivered a reminder about the importance of balanced and sustainable development at the Ocean Leadership conference. In a keynote address, Mr. Lim spoke of Sustainable Development Goals as unifying factor breathing life into global efforts to improve the lives of people everywhere. He confirmed IMO’s commitment to the 2030 Sustainability Agenda. He highlighted moves to cut greenhouse gas emissions, reducing sulphur content of ships’ fuel oil, requiring strict ballast water management and adopting the Polar Code as recent examples of IMO’s own sustainability agenda.
