The Shipping industry is gaining more and more experience with operation of Ballast Water Treatment Systems in challenging waters. Many vessels report delays in ballast water operations due to excessive organic or non-organic load on their systems. Albion Marine recommends Ship Operators to include the Contingency Procedures in their Ballast Water Management Plans (BWMP). The procedure needs to be specific to the vessel. IMO has provided a Guidance on contingency measures under the BWM Convention. Quite often, on vessels built with BWTS the contingency measures were not included in BWMP.
