Albion Marine Solutions offers radioactive water testing services for vessels/ships taking ballast water while operating in the Pacific Ocean

The recent discharge of radioactive water from Japan's Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean has prompted heightened concerns for marine safety and environmental protection. Japan's Fukushima incident has underscored the importance of stringent measures to ensure the purity and safety of our waters. The release of radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean has raised questions about the possible inflow of contaminated ballast water into Canadian and U.S. ports, creating a pressing need for preventive action.

Albion Marine Solutions: Your Trusted Partner for Radioactive Water Testing

The Pacific Ocean separates Japan from the west coast of North America. The recent discharge of radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean has prompted vessels operating at ports along the Pacific Ocean coastline to conduct ballast water checks, emphasizing the importance of marine safety and environmental protection. Effective immediately, Albion Marine Solutions offers specialized radioactive water testing services for vessels entering Canada, the U.S., and other ports globally after taking on ballast water from any of the six major Eastern Japanese ports: Aomori, Iwate, Fukushima, Miyagi, Ibaraki, and Chiba.

Our Services include:

Radioactive Water Testing: Thorough testing to detect any radioactive contaminants in ballast water.

Compliance Expertise: Albion Marine Solutions provides expert guidance to help vessels meet regulatory requirements and prevent the discharge of radioactive substances.

Stay ahead of Regulations: Compliance standards are continually refined to address emerging challenges. Korean authorities have already implemented new regulations for vessels entering Korean waters from these Japanese ports. Albion Marine Solutions is at the forefront of these changes, providing radioactive testing and compliance services to help vessels meet and exceed regulatory expectations. Albion Marine Solutions: EEXI (Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index) & Energy Efficiency Solutions

Albion Marine Solutions is actively offering assistance and support to Ship Owners, Operators, and Managers to ensure compliance with the recently introduced Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) Legislation. We are dedicated to investigating available and suitable decarbonization and efficiency technologies and operational changes for their vessels. We aim to provide the best solution for EEXI reduction and return on investment (ROI).

The EEXI measures the energy efficiency and carbon emissions of vessels already in operation with a gross tonnage exceeding 400. the carrier (operational) or ship owner must ensure their assets comply with EEXI regulations by January 1, 2023

EEXI can be applied to: Bulk Carriers, Gas Carriers, Tankers, Container Ships, General Cargo Ships, RO-RO Cargo Ships, RO-RO Passenger Ships, LNG Carriers, Cruise Passenger Ships Non-Conventional Propulsion of 400GT.

All ships mentioned above must adhere to a prescribed Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI). A specified reduction factor determines this index, expressed as a percentage relative to the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) baseline. The achieved EEXI must be equal to or lower than the Required EEXI.

There are many options to meet the Required EEXI; Albion Marine experts will provide you with the best solution based on calculating your ship's current EEXI value. This can be achieved in three phases:

  • EEXI Calculation & Decarbonization High-Level Feasibility Study: This phase involves assessing the current Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) and evaluating potential operational changes and energy-efficient technologies.
  • Selection of Chosen Solutions, Engineering, and Integration: In this phase, solutions are selected, engineering processes are initiated, and integration plans are developed.
  • Engineering Design and Integration: This includes activities such as Vessel Survey & 3D Scanning (if required), Basic Design, Classification Society Approval, Detailed Engineering & Design, and the Integration of chosen systems.

Successful Completion of Turnkey Ballast Water Treatment Project in Ferrol, Spain

We are delighted to announce the successful completion of an extensive turnkey project: Installation of a Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) in Ferrol, Spain.

The project encompassed a range of pivotal stages, from conducting ship site surveys and feasibility studies to overseeing procurement, installation, and commissioning processes. Our professionals meticulously handled each step to ensure project success while fully complying with international regulations.

Ship Site Survey and 3D Scan: The project commenced with a comprehensive ship site survey and a precise 3D scan of the vessel. This initial phase set the foundation for accurate project planning and system integration.

Feasibility Study and BWTS Selection: In close collaboration with maritime authorities and experts, an exhaustive feasibility study was conducted to identify the most suitable Ballast Water Treatment System for the vessel's unique specifications. The selection process adhered to stringent environmental standards while considering the ship's operational requirements.

Procurement and Installation: Once the BWTS was chosen, our team managed the procurement process meticulously. This involved sourcing quality components and ensuring timely delivery. The subsequent installation phase occurred in the shipyard, where the system was seamlessly integrated into the vessel's existing infrastructure.

Commissioning and Testing: The commissioning phase was pivotal in the project's timeline. Our dedicated engineers and technicians worked diligently to ensure that every aspect of the BWTS was functional and optimized for performance. Rigorous testing procedures were conducted to validate the system's efficiency and compliance with international regulations.

Ballast Water Management Plans (BWMP): Our experts collaborated with the ship's crew to develop comprehensive Ballast Water Management Plans in parallel with the system installation. These plans outline best practices for maintaining the system, managing ballast water, and ensuring ongoing compliance.

Class Approval and BWTS Sampling: To guarantee the BWTS's adherence to class society regulations, we obtained essential class approvals and certifications. Rigorous testing and sampling procedures were conducted to validate the system's effectiveness in treating ballast water and safeguarding marine ecosystems.

We extend our gratitude to the dedicated teams, partners, and stakeholders who contributed to the successful execution of this project. Their collective expertise, relentless dedication, and innovative spirit were instrumental in completing projects successfully. We are currently engaged in similar ongoing projects in China, Canada, the USA, Turkey, Australia, and India.
